Funding and budgeting issues in Springfield schools and schools across the nation have left school nursing services lacking adequate staffing. As the prevalence on chronic health conditions in American children continues to increase, school nurses are an evermore valuable resource. This story focuses on three of the district nurses in Springfield and how understaffing affects their work and students in the district. The story came out of my Reporting class with edits from my professor.

Oregon public schools like those in the Springfield School District have a renewed emphasis on technical and vocational education. Years of low graduation rates have prompted this new approach. For this story I went to a Career Exploration Day for Springfield freshman and sophomores to see how school districts are implementing this change. This story came out of my Reporting class with edits from my professor.

For this story I spoke with recent volunteers for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon and members of the pro-life organization Oregon Right To Life. We discussed their motivations for advocating and where the abortion debate stands one year after the election of Donald Trump. This story came out of my Journalistic Interview class with edits from classmates and my professor.
